In Order to Build Muscle Mass Learn to Lift Smart Not Heavy
Everyone wants to know how to build muscle mass, but perhaps the more important question is how to build muscle mass in order to actually see change? It is a simple science. You break down the tissues within the muscle group that you are working by lifting heavy weights, and then you fuel the microscopic tears within the muscle with proper nutrition and protein supplementation to encourage growth during the time the body repairs itself.
However, while the formula seems simple, there is a crosshatch of information that lies below the surface. For instance, the first step to building muscle is to break down the tissue. Sounds easy enough right? So if you want to see the biggest gains you should just lift as heavy as you can so that the body will be forced to match your effort with new muscle tissue. Wrong. Too many bodybuilders and weight trainers forgo the gradualist approach to gaining muscle and opt for an extreme type of training to build muscle mass. Intensity is always going to be the biggest denominator when it comes to gaining muscle. The intensity can be just as high when you are working with lower weights as it can be with heavier ones.
This isn’t to say there is little benefit in lifting super heavy weights, this is just to shed some much needed light on the fact that breaking down your muscle to the point of devastation every workout will leave your body weak and unable to repair itself. If you want to see change you have to lift smart, not just heavy. If you don’t, you will instead have a counterproductive workout cycle that prevents lean muscle development.
